As I remember it, when I (and maybe 30 others) arrived in El Paso (Ft. Bliss), we were too late for the
Nike training schools that we should have been enrolled in. So I missed the technical training that I had enlisted for.
I spent much of my time operating generators, ... When I arrived at McGregor, there were two baracks buildings,
joined in the center with showers, toilets, etc. (Or one building with two wings.) There was an administration
building with an orderly room and some offices. There was also a huge mess hall. It had just been built.
No counter tops or fixtures; we served food from big pots that were placed on stands. We washed the metal
trays, pots, pans, silverware, etc behind the building in GI cans with drip burners.
