Abandoned Radar Site (view west), expanded

This is a view facing west over the Pacific Ocean. The view is from the front gate of the abandoned Integrated Fire Control (IFC) area at the top of Wolf Ridge about 2 miles north west of the Golden Gate Bridge.

This site is well positioned to defend the San Francisco Bay Area from aircraft and missile attacks coming from the west, south west, and north west. There is also excellent radar coverage toward these directions and good radar coverage in all directions. Mount Tamelpias to the north is slightly higher which would restrict views of low aircraft in that direction. Other sites near Petaluma cover that direction.

The high blue haze (which could indicate mountains) are actually clouds over the Pacific Ocean.

The road leading west was partly destroyed in the earthquake of 1989 when about 300 meters of it slumped 40 feet.
